Severn Trent De Nora Acquires Electrochlorination Line from Chlorine Engineers
CECHLO seawater and brine electrochlorination systems to be offered in Japan under newly-formed CEC Water Technologies Limited
Severn Trent De Nora and Chlorine Engineers Corp., Ltd. have agreed to terms that will further strengthen Severn Trent De Nora’s (STDN) global position in electrochlorination systems technology through the acquisition of key technologies from Chlorine Engineers Corp., Ltd.
STDN has formed a new company, CEC Water Technologies Limited, that will be a regional platform focused on the Japanese market, leveraging the capabilities of Chlorine Engineers to the water treatment market to serve the combined customer base in Japan and Asia.
In its 40 years of operation, Chlorine Engineers has developed a successful range of municipal and industrial electrolytic process technologies, including the CECHLO brand line of seawater and brine electrochlorination systems which is well established in Japan. Under the terms of the agreement, STDN has acquired the CECHLO brand of seawater and brine electrolysis systems and it will be transferred into the CEC Water Technologies business (see Appendix). Chlorine Engineers, fully owned by Industrie De Nora, will take a minority interest in STDN with the commitment to engage in future product development with STDN.
The agreement will allow Severn Trent De Nora to use the newly-created platform of CEC Water Technologies to further develop technologies integrating the CECHLO portfolio, thus improving its product offering and expanding its customer focus in Japan.
Additionally, Severn Trent De Nora has entered into an exclusive worldwide license arrangement with Chlorine Engineers to access its Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM) electrolyzer for high strength hypochlorite generation systems for municipal water and wastewater treatment applications. This system will complement Severn Trent De Nora’s global position as a leader in electrochemical disinfection systems and support growth initiatives in Asia and the Middle East via access to a broader portfolio of technologies.
According to Frank Martin, operations director, “Severn Trent De Nora is a successful joint venture between Severn Trent Services and electrodes specialist Industrie De Nora with a market leading position and brand in electrolytic disinfection systems. As a new business focused on serving customers with its broader portfolio of electrochlorination systems, CEC Water Technologies is positioned to benefit from this new combination of assets and resources. We will be able to offer customers an expanded portfolio of electrochlorination and IEM technologies and provide a stronger platform for future innovation.”
CEC Water Technologies will be overseen by Mr. Kimitoshi Tadatsu, a former senior member of the Chlorine Engineers team.
