Severn Trent De Nora BALPURE Ballast Water Treatment System Receives Basic Approval
The BALPURE® ballast water treatment system from Severn Trent De Nora received basic approval from the International Maritime Organization’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) 60th session, March 22-26, 2010. As a result, Severn Trent De Nora has submitted its dossier for final approval of the system at an upcoming MEPC session. Severn Trent Services-Apliclor, a leading supplier of water and wastewater treatment solutions, has designed a new wastewater disinfection system for the town of Alguaire, Spain, which will enable the reuse of wastewater for irrigation. Severn Trent Services-Apliclor, in partnership with ACCIONA AGUA, has designed, constructed and installed the TETRA® LP Block dual parallel underdrain filters for pre-treatment of the Fouka SWRO desalination plant in Tipaza, Algeria. The plant will have a daily capacity of 120,000 m3/day (3.7mgd) and will provide water to more than 500,000 people. With the completion of construction expected during 2010, the Fouka SWRO plant is part of the Algerian government’s desalination program, which includes the construction of 12 desalination plants producing a total of 2.2 million m3/day.

The La Vergne, Tennessee Water Treatment Plant has been awarded a Water Fluoridation Quality Award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The city’s 9.8 million-gallons-per-day surface water treatment plant serves 27,000 residents and has been operated and maintained by Severn Trent Services under a public-private partnership since 2007.
